Just think of the packaging, the containers, and our kitchen appliances and utensils. Strict EU legislation (Regulation (EC) No 1935/2004) ensures that chemicals that pose a risk to our health cannot be transferred from these objects to our food.
There are specific regulations on plastics, ceramics and recycled plastics entering into contact with food:
- plastics: Regulation (EU) No 10/2011
- ceramics: directive 84/500/EC
- recycled plastics: Regulation (EC) No 282/2008
